I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a sister. And I am also a driven entrepreneur who is not scared of hard work. I adore my family and they are the most important thing in my life. I am a health and fitness enthusiast who loves working with people. I absolutely love helping people and it gives me great joy in helping people becoming the best versions of themselves – physically, mentally, or emotionally.
Hello, I am Gretha!
“I want to help people discover their true beauty and help them achieve their optimal potential.”
I have recently been crowned Mrs Africa Globe 2022 and I will be representing our beautiful country as well as our spectacular continent at Mrs Globe 2022 which will be held in China.
I am charismatic and compassionate, and a woman who possesses radiant inner and outer beauty. At just 40 years old, I am a successful businesswoman as well as a philanthropist with a sincere love for others, determined to encourage change on both a social and individual level. Having survived a childhood suicide attempt, I have since become a passionate advocate for the promotion of mental health and creating awareness around suicide prevention. As such, I, Gretha Garnett, personifies the values that define the Mrs. Globe brand, which not only recognizes external beauty but also aims to showcase true beauty that shines from within and to celebrate every woman in her unique femininity.
With over 15 years’ experience in the health and fitness industry; an honours degree in biokinetics with psychology as one of my major subjects; an NLP qualification; and a qualification in Digital Marketing, I can give you comprehensive support and guidance.
I am an advocate for living life with a positive mindset and to grab onto every opportunity life throws at you. I believe that you can teach yourself new thought patterns and habits to change your life for the good. I also believe that you need to pursue the things that brings joy to your personal life as well as your career.
I have been a suicide survivor, struggling with bouts of depression throughout my life, as well as suffering with postpartum depression. I have made the conscious decision to use those life events as positive drive forces in my life and they won’t be breaking elements that will prevent me from achieving any of my goals and dreams.
Not, as some may say, ‘just a pretty face, a wife or mother’, I really do break stereotypes. I, who considers myself ‘a small-town girl from Polokwane’ am married to Alasdair and we are blessed to have a healthy and happy 4-year-old son, James. As a qualified biokineticist (holding a bachelor’s degree in Biokinetics from the North-West University in Potchefstroom), I am the co-director of The Practice, a health, wellness, and high-performance facility in Linden, Johannesburg. My passion for helping and healing people radiates from within.
Another topic that resonates deeply with me is that of women supporting women. My aim is to empower women, to have them believe in themselves, and to stand up for themselves. Women are strong and powerful – “they sometimes need to be gently reminded of this, by a woman who has been through much of the same that they have, and to show them how to come out on the other side of fear”. To rise from the ashes, we tend to bestow on ourselves through life, motherhood, and labels of society.
I know what it is like to live in the shadows of darkness. I know what an empty, dark pit of despair looks like. And upon hearing my life story, of how I survived a suicide attempt, and how I continuously battle my ongoing fight with depression, you will be left in awe as to realize how a person is able to make it through the darkness – and not only survive, but flourish.
Yes. And I am not shy to proclaim it anymore. But more importantly, I am brave and am not just willing to share my story of survival. I feel that I have a tremendous responsibility to share my story which others may identify with and specially to educate and help those who can’t see a way out. I believe that everyone should and can be the best that they can be, but I also believe that in order to love others, one must first learn to love yourself unconditionally. I promise everyone, there is hope. And I know that Mrs. Africa Globe 2022 title will help me on this journey.
This is my story, and I am glad that I can share it with you! xxx
